Banner Health is expanding its University Medical Center, an urban hospital campus in the heart of Phoenix, part of the Master Campus Plan developed by HKS. The project will provide a new face for the facility, elevate the Banner brand, and improve capacity and operational capabilities for the flagship location.

The 372,500-square-foot, 13-story replacement patient tower is currently under construction above the HKS-designed, state-of-the-art 3-story emergency department and Level 1 Trauma Center. As site area is at a premium, many buildings were demolished, adding complexity to the project, and yet an opportunity to develop an intricate, phased construction schedule with an emphasis on non-disruption of operations. Innovations in design and delivery have saved 12 months and $24 million to date.
