Decentralizing critical care from the traditional overcrowded model, Baptist Health South Florida’s Doral Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) is the third in the series of an evolving prototype aimed to engage a new generation with a next generation emergency center.

A study conducted by Baptist on the design preferences of Millennials showed a preference for classic over trendy, modern over traditional, and community over privacy. To establish Baptist Health South Florida’s new, modernized brand, the design was inspired by an innovative spirit and state of the art technology and reflects the high quality care provided. This 43,599-square-foot FSED includes a second floor for medical offices.

The site was also large enough to inspire a slightly different composition, featuring dual entry points to maintain separation between physician offices and the ED. The first floor is situated North to South while the second floor runs East to West. The crossover between the floors provides covered parking and a walkway, which is connected to the medical office space by a trellis structure.
