Nestled quietly in the busy streets of the Texas Medical Center, Houston Methodist’s academic flagship campus is a family of buildings collectively making a big impact on healthcare.

While the Outpatient Center and Research Institute have evolved and centralized outpatient care there, the recently completed Walter Tower elevates the inpatient experience. Its boomerang-shaped parti was developed in response to the site and curvilinear form of contextual buildings. The 22-story, 366 private bed hospital houses nationally recognized DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center and Neurological Institutes. It features high-tech operating rooms with hybrid ORs – allowing for unprecedented minimally-invasive procedures.

Intraoperative MRI enables surgeons to scan patients in-place during cardiac or neurological operations. The latest Gamma Knife delivers high doses of radiation with pin point accuracy to treat brain tumors without requiring surgery.

The historic “Arms of Christ” mosaic invites people to the 3-story Bush Atrium which acts as a hub connecting the tower to the rest of campus.
