The UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay project spanned nearly nine years from the start of schematic design to first patient. The goal to optimize world class health care is supported by specific strategies such as enabling “bench to patient” protocols linking research and care by
locating the project in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission Bay.

The 289-bed, 878,000 SF ground-up project includes:

• 183–bed UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital at Mission Bay
• UCSF Betty Irene Moore Women’s Hospital
• UCSF Bakar Cancer Hospital, part of the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center
• UCSF Ron Conway Family Gateway Medical Building
• Energy center, helipad, parking, and support services
• 16 individual gardens totaling 4.3 acres of green space, with more than an acre of rooftop gardens
